Encantamientos/Enchantments: Recent Work by Rodriguez-Calero & Henry Bermudez
Guest curator Anabelle Rodriguez-Gonzalez brings together the work of Henry Bermudez and Rodriguez Calero, who are both well versed in creating magical illusions and nuances that take us beyond our world. Bermudez’s work translates into a sinuous style full of evocative and mythical cadence. With systematic craft, surfaces become a kind of pierced lace and result in a labyrinth that pulls us into his world of archetypal forms and anthropomorphic mythological beasts. Rodriguez Calero’s collages are highly lyrical yet imbued with a tension and intent found in zen poetry. A style of painting she calls acrollage, Rodriguez Calero builds layered images that strike a form of visual balance between spirituality and urbanity. Like light and shadow, the work of these two artists emits a brightness and darkness, whose visions are irresistibly enchanting with their sheer yet subtle power.
