Philadelphia Museum of Jewish Art
Housed in Reform Congregation Rodeph Shalom, the Philadelphia Museum of Jewish Art presents contemporary art that illuminates the Jewish experience. The PMJA will present internationally known printmaker Judith K. Brodsky in an installation titled Memoir of an Assimilated Family. The exhibit will feature etchings based on old family photographs; each image is accompanied by anecdotal text. Brodsky is fascinated by the paradox of assimilation--that in trying to follow the old rules, immigrants and their children created a new order. Another element important to Brodsky is the way in which the Holocaust creates a context for looking at American Jewish family history.
