About The Academy of Natural Sciences
Founded in 1812, the Academy of Natural Sciences is America s oldest natural science research institution and museum. In addition to its public exhibits and research collections, the Academy has one of the finest natural history libraries in the country. The Ewell Sale Stewart Library holds nearly 200,000 volumes ranging from books published in the 1500s to current journals. It is a treasure house of natural history prints, including works by Catesby, Gould, and Audubon. As part of Philagrafika, the Academy will mount an exhibit and hold workshops that explore how natural history prints have played a key role in conveying the marvels of the natural world.
