Taller Puertorriqueño
Puerto Rico has been at the center of graphic arts since the 1950 s when a revival simultaneously encompassed printmaking, street art, popular imagery and high art. The Puerto Rican Graphic R/Evolution Series at Taller's Lorenzo Homar Gallery showcases Latino artists from the island and the states, emerging and established, whose work is both revolutionary and evolutionary. Taller also pays homage to its beginnings as a workshop for the graphic arts that began in 1974. These three exhibitions celebrate and explore some of the most highly regarded and innovative Puerto Rican graphic artists and highlight new artists who continue their legacy.

Lo Que Aparece y Desaparece Exhibition
April 9 - June 5, 2010
Las Gallas--Julia Lopez, Magda Martinez, and Michelle Ortiz--is a Philadelphia-based multi-disciplinary artist collective which incorporates theatre, visual arts, dance, film, poetry, spoken word and literature imbedded in the tradition of community arts.
Las Gallas present Lo Que Aparece y Desaparece, a mixed media print installation that explores the importance of mark making (those seen and unseen) in art, family and on the path of individuals. Lo Que Aparece y Desaparece was created specifically for Taller Puertorriqueno’s 35th Anniversary exhibition season, The Graphic R/Evolution.
A mix of print techniques, including photography, screenprinting, collographs and woodcuts the exhibit explores marks themselves. How are experiences, people, places imprinted on us? How do we manipulate and recombine the artifacts of memory? What does a memory become when it begins to fade? How do we decipher marks with unknown origins? By creating an alternate reality through printmaking Las Gallas hopes to create a space to interact with these questions and the long tradition of printmaking in Latino arts.
